5 years ago when I joined Aramark I noticed that the team was using the 2nd floor to store paper goods. To get to the 2nd floor one had to climb up the wooden stair structure with only one banister while pallets of paper products were beamed up with a forklift. This area was too small for a forklift to operate from and there was a potential risk for it to strike an object or a team member. The 2nd floor had a low ceiling height with metal beams low enough that one had to bend down to get through.
I shut down this space and reconfigured the entire warehouse to house all paper products on the first floor and banned the forklift from operating in that small space near the 2nd floor stairs.
