These stories exemplify our collective commitment to ensuring the health and safety of all individuals within our organization. As we celebrate World Health and Safety Day, we continue to champion safety excellence and strive for continuous improvement in all aspects of our work.
1. At Aramark UHG, safety is our top priority, especially when it comes to vehicle operations. All vehicles under our purview are required to adhere strictly to RSA (Road Safety Authority) regulations to guarantee the safety of both our employees and employers.
To uphold this commitment, we have implemented rigorous procedures, starting with regular vehicle walk-around checks. These checks are conducted meticulously to ensure that our trucks are in optimal, roadworthy conditions before they hit the road.
Moreover, a significant number of our drivers possess the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC), demonstrating their proficiency and compliance with all safety regulations. Our drivers undergo comprehensive training to not only operate vehicles safely but also to identify any potential defects. This training equips them with the necessary skills to flag problems and address them proactively before commencing their journeys.
We emphasize to our drivers the critical importance of ensuring that the vehicles they operate are in roadworthy condition prior to setting off. By maintaining a strict adherence to safety protocols and regulations, we strive to minimize risks and uphold the highest standards of safety across all our operations.
2. Cleaning in a bustling environment poses significant challenges, particularly within the sensitive setting of a hospital where the well-being of vulnerable individuals is of utmost importance. The constant flow of people through hospital corridors during peak hours markedly heightens the risk of falls and trips, especially when cleaning machine cables are strewn along the pathways, exacerbated by inconveniently located sockets.
To address this pressing safety concern, we took proactive measures by engaging the maintenance department. Our collaborative effort resulted in the installation of additional sockets and the implementation of floor cable cover mats. These strategic interventions have notably diminished the risk of accidents, ensuring a safer environment for both patients and staff.
3. Maintaining clear and unobstructed escape routes is crucial for the safety of all individuals within our premises. At Aramark UHG, we prioritize the safety of our staff and customers by ensuring that our escape routes meet stringent safety standards.
Escape routes should ideally be at least one meter wide and in good condition, leading occupants to a place of safety, typically outside and away from the building. Furthermore, it’s imperative that doors along escape routes remain readily accessible at all times, without the need for a key.
In line with our commitment to safety, we have taken proactive steps to address any potential hazards within our escape routes. We recently reached out to our maintenance department to address the issue of an old and worn double door. We have requested the replacement of this door with a new one equipped with a self-closing mechanism. This upgrade is aimed at enhancing the safety of both our staff and customers, ensuring swift and secure evacuation in case of an emergency.
By investing in these safety measures, we reinforce our dedication to providing a secure environment for everyone at Aramark UHG.
