SCENARIO – CHEMICAL SAFETY
Following an inspection from the HSA authority we received a non-conformance for chemical safety. Being in the pharmaceutical industry we use hazardous chemicals e.g. disinfectants and IPA supplied by the client for cleaning in the cleanroom areas
As a corrective action a new designated room was allocated for these chemicals
We received excellent training from Aramark compliance manager Colm McGrath on importance of
- Risk assessment of the area
- Correct storage of the chemicals , flammable cabinet and not stored beside other chemicals
- Importance of ventilation
- Storage of equipment
- Correct ppe
- Safety data sheet and chemical risk assessment
- First aid
- Chemical spillage
- Preparation of the solution
- Understanding label elements
